For many, the coming of winter and the first snowfall is a time to rejoice, to play and to have a little fun. If you’re excited to rush out and head to the slopes, you’ll want to make sure that your day in the snow is without injuries.  If you keep the following guidelines in mind, your winter fun will also be safe.safty skiing tips

Check your Equipment.  Before you head out on to the slopes, make sure that all of your equipment is in good working order, including ear coverings, bindings and all of your snow gear, are in perfect shape to keep you safe and keep you warm.

Ensure Your Headphones Don’t Distract You.  If you listen to music while you ski or snowboard, make sure that you have the best sports earphones, a set that doesn’t destroy your ability to hear what’s going on around you. Find the right headphones that offer superior sound quality while allowing you to stay alert to what’s going on around you.

Warm Up Before You Hit the Slopes. We don’t mean make sure your body is not feeling cold. Here, we mean that you should do some form of physical activity, to warm up your muscles and avoid injury. There’s nothing worse than going out on the first run of the year and having problems, say leg cramps, because you failed to warm up.

Stay Hydrated. Drink enough water when you’re out on the slopes. Grab a bottle of water in between runs and make sure to drink it, whether you feel thirsty or not. The high elevations at ski resorts can cause you to lose fluid more quickly than you realize.

Don’t Overdo It.  Pay attention to what your body is telling you. If you’re tired at the end of a run, then take a break, or call it a day. It’s better to stay healthy and safe than to make an easy run more dangerous because you’re feeling fatigued but don’t want to stop.
